When to go to Uyuni?
The salt flat begins just outside Uyuni and then simply does not stop: a white plain that turns to mirror after rain, with the sky underfoot. Giant cacti bristle on Isla Incahuasi, an island of rock in the middle of it, and rusting locomotives sit in the train cemetery on the edge of town, left over from the mining years.
