When to go to Tunis?
The medina is a covered warren of perfume sellers, chéchia makers and carpet showrooms wrapped around the Zitouna Mosque. A suburban train runs out to Carthage, where Punic and Roman remains look over the bay, and on to Sidi Bou Saïd, all whitewash, blue shutters and jasmine. The Bardo holds the Roman mosaics, room after room of them.
