When to go to Amman?
Amman spreads over a series of hills, white limestone all the way up. On the highest, the Citadel keeps a Roman temple, an Umayyad palace and a view across to the theatre cut into the slope below, still used for concerts. The old centre beneath is where the souks and the cardamom coffee are, and Jerash, a remarkably complete Roman city, lies just north.
