When to go to Thessaloniki?
At one end of the Thessaloniki seafront stands the White Tower, and the Nikis promenade fills each evening with people walking towards the light over the Thermaic Gulf. St Demetrios keeps its Byzantine mosaics a few streets uphill, while the Roman forum opens a terrace of old stone above the markets. Between them lies the real argument for staying: spices, bougatsa and very long dinners.
