When to go to Izmir?
Izmir faces its gulf square on, with the ornate Clock Tower at the centre of Konak Square and ferries criss-crossing to the far shore. Kemeraltı runs inland from there, a bazaar of coppersmiths, fabric stalls and coffee houses, with the Roman Agora sunk in the middle of it. Ephesus lies down the coast to the south, close enough to see and be back by evening.
