When to go to Bangkok?
Bangkok is organised around the Chao Phraya, and the river is still the best way to arrive at the Grand Palace, where the mirrored spires of Wat Phra Kaew throw the light straight back at you. Wat Arun rises on the far bank, at its best first thing; after dark Yaowarat becomes a corridor of gold shops and charcoal grills. The floating market at Damnoen Saduak is an early start away.
